Swim Tests will take place in Alexandria (typically at Chinquapin Rec, Minnie Howard or Old Town Pool)
2025 Swim Test Dates: TBD
Summer Crew is a great way for rising 7th through rising 12th graders to learn to row, build your skills, stay in shape and have fun! Alexandria Crew Boosters offers a variety of four-week, summer rowing programs at the Dee Campbell Rowing Center.
1. Can I miss registration or up to a week of the program?
Registration for Summer Crew is only available online. We will not accept in-person registration. We will accept online registrations until our program is full. The programs are meant to be fun and not super competitive. A week missed is no big deal (just let your coach know!) but we cannot offer refunds for missed sessions.
2. Which program is appropriate for a high school rower?
Sculling is for experienced/varsity rowers to learn how to scull or work on their current skills. Intermediate Sweep is for rowers who have at least one competitive year (spring racing season). Novice Sweep is for brand new rowers or rising 8th/9th graders who may have done summer or fall crew in the past but have not rowed a spring season yet.
3. Can rowers from other school participate?Yes! Rowers can be from any school system (or home schooled) and still participate in our summer program.
4. Do I need a swim test or physical?Rowers should have physicals on file at their schools and parents will attest that their rowers are in appropriate physical health to row. Sculling or Intermediate rowers who rowed for Titan Rowing in the spring do NOT need a new swim test for the summer. All other rowers (Youth Novices or rowers from other schools) must take the swim test. We will offer swim tests on (TBD) at Chinquapin Recreation Center or another city pool nearby. Times will be arranged for makeup testing. If there is a conflict with ALL of the multiple swim tests offered, parents should contact the summer crew coordinator.
5. What are the required ages of rowers?
Summer Crew is available for all rising 7th through rising 12th graders.
6. Is financial aid available if families need help?
If a family has an interested rower and there is a financial strain, please contact the program administrator, Lexye Hearding , to discuss options for payment discounts.
